The school council is well established with a head boy and girl, deputies and 12 council members. The school council is led by school TA Miss Sheridan. Any child wanting to have a place on the council has to explain to the rest of the class why they believe they would make a suitable candidate. This encourages positive self –esteem with pupils being able to state their strengths. The children are then voted for by the rest of class – instilling democracy at an early stage in their lives.
Weekly meetings are held in which children are invited to put forward their views and to create action plans. Pupil voice is listened to; pupils requested new playtime equipment and buddy benches to support any child in need of a friend. Friendship benches are now located on the playground for children who need support.
- School council members are nominated and then voted in by their class mates.
- Elections are held yearly.
- Throughout the week children will jot any issues, concerns, worries or ideas etc. that they wish to discuss at the council meeting.
- The school council will work on challenges discussed within the meetings and provide possible solutions.
- They may want to speak with a senior member of staff/governors with suggestions.
