Our School Council and School Ambassadors plays an important role in school life, giving pupils the opportunity to have a voice and make a positive difference within our school community.
The council is well established and consists of Head and Deputy Head pupils and elected School Council representatives, who also serve as Ambassadors. The School Council is led by Miss Sheridan.
Each year, pupils who wish to become a School Council representative take part in a democratic election process. Candidates explain to their classmates why they would be a suitable representative and what qualities they can bring to the role. This helps to build confidence, develop speaking and listening skills, and encourages children to recognise and celebrate their strengths. Classmates then vote for their chosen candidate, providing pupils with a meaningful introduction to democracy.
The School Council meets weekly to discuss ideas, concerns and suggestions gathered from pupils across the school. Throughout the week, children are encouraged to share their views, helping to ensure that pupil voice remains at the heart of school improvement.
Council members work together to identify priorities, create action plans and suggest solutions to challenges raised by their peers. Where appropriate, they may meet with senior leaders or governors to present ideas and recommendations.
The impact of the School Council can be seen throughout the school. Following requests from pupils, new playground equipment has been purchased and friendship benches have been installed, providing support for children who may need someone to talk to or play with during break times.
Through their work, School Council members help to promote responsibility, teamwork, leadership and active citizenship, making our school an even better place to learn and grow.
Our vision is that all pupils at Lingdale Primary School are able to have a voice and contribute towards the continuous improvements of our school.
